Fractus’ CEO, Jordi Ilario, defending innovation in Mon Economia interview

The economic media outlet Món Economia recently published an interview with Jordi Ilario, Fractus CEO, in which he reviews the origins, challenges, and evolution of the company from its creation to becoming an international antenna technology licensing company.

In the interview Ilario reflects on the challenges of protecting innovation in a highly competitive sector. He explains the Fractus’ patent defense processes: “When someone infringes on our patents, we try to secure a license. If no agreement is reached, we go to court. That’s why I say we’ve had wars, even internal battles”.

With more than 40 inventions and over 120 registered patents, Fractus has made intellectual property the core of its business strategy. Ilario emphasizes that the company’s model focuses on technology licensing and maintaining an agile structure: “We are a large SME, with a team of about 20 people who work very efficiently”.

During the conversation, he also highlights the importance of collaboration with academia, mentioning the relationship with the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC), where the company has its research hub, and with Pompeu Fabra University (UPF), with which it collaborates through a chair in 6G.

Ilario also recalls some of Fractus’ key milestones, such as licensing agreements with major companies in the sector and litigation that has helped strengthen its position as a pioneer in fractal antenna technology and strategic intellectual property management. “Industrial property not only protects what we do, it also drives innovation and allows us to compete globally”, he says.
