From a functional view, slider handsets pose challenges that are similar to clamshell terminals due to the requirement of maintaining a consistent user experience in two different positions, open and closed.
Fractus' deep experience in this form-factor can help you develop and launch an optimised device. If you are interested in making your slider handset thinner, our low profile handset antenna technologies can help you achieve your device goals without sacrificing handset performance.
One Fractus customer presented an even greater challenge to develop one handset antenna that would work in both a slider phone and two different bar phones. The Fractus solution was a multi-level handset antenna, part of which was positioned under the PCB to allow the antenna to see the FR4 thickness as extra height. Four different handset antenna configurations were possible using a unique stamping tool with progressive die with in-out die sets. The result was a quadband slider phone (GSM 850, 950, DCS and PCS) and two dual band bar phones. This provided the leading European OEM with a flexible solution and a quicker ROI.
